Ski rental on the way to Špindlerův Mlýn: pick up in Vrchlabí or wait until the resort?

Anyone heading to Špindlerův Mlýn to ski usually faces the same question: bring skis from home, rent them in the resort, or pick them up on the way? Our rental is in Vrchlabí, and the roads to Špindlerův Mlýn from Prague, Hradec Králové, Brno, Liberec and Trutnov all lead through the town. Below you will find how far we are from your route, how pick-up works and when a rental right in Špindlerův Mlýn suits you better.

The road to Špindlerův Mlýn and where exactly we are

The last stretch runs from Vrchlabí along road II/295, upstream along the Elbe (Labe), all the way to Špindlerův Mlýn, where the road ends. You will find our rental on Valteřická street in Vrchlabí, and you can park right in front of it.

How big a detour is it? We checked the public route planner OSRM, which works with OpenStreetMap map data. According to it, the fastest driving route to Špindlerův Mlýn passes:

• from Prague, Hradec Králové, Jičín and Brno, about 610 metres from the rental,
• from Liberec, about 710 metres from the rental,
• from Trutnov, right past us.

According to the planner, it is 16.1 km from the rental to Špindlerův Mlýn, about 18 minutes by car. Your satnav may send you a different way. In winter, on snowy roads or in heavy traffic, allow some extra time.

Picking up skis on the way: how it works with us

The surest option is to book your gear in advance through the form on our website. You fill in the pick-up and return dates and, for each person, the gear they want to rent. We get back to you by e-mail and have the gear ready for the agreed date.

So that the gear fits as well as possible, we need to know for each person:

• height and weight,
• shoe size,
• experience, that is whether they are a beginner, an occasional skier or an experienced skier,
• for children, age, height and shoe size are enough (please add the age in the note).

We then choose the ski length and binding setting based on height, weight and experience. If you have your own boots, choose the “skis only” option in the form. You can add anything else in the note, for example that you will arrive later in the afternoon. We also rent helmets, poles and goggles separately, and besides downhill skis we have snowboards and cross-country skis too.

Ski rental in Vrchlabí or in Špindlerův Mlýn itself?

Both options have their merits. It mainly depends on how you are travelling, how much room you have in the car and how early you want to be on the slopes in the morning.

What picking up in Vrchlabí gives you

• You stop on the way. According to the planner, the route to Špindlerův Mlýn passes just a few hundred metres from us, and from Trutnov right past us.
• You arrive in Špindlerův Mlýn already equipped and do not have to sort out a rental there.
• If you book in advance, we prepare the gear according to the height, weight and experience you give us.
• Our price list is published on the website, so you can compare it in advance with what the rentals in the resort offer.

What to allow for

• You carry the gear in your car. Skis for a whole family take up quite a lot of space, so a roof box or folded-down back seats come in handy.
• If something does not fit, say a boot starts pinching in Špindlerův Mlýn, you have to take it back about 16 km to Vrchlabí. A rental right in the resort would be closer.
• Pick-up and return have to fit within our opening hours. If you want to be on the slopes first thing in the morning, plan your pick-up around them. You will find the current opening hours on the contact page and in the website footer.
• If you are travelling to Špindlerův Mlýn without a car, the gear is one more thing to deal with, and a rental in the resort will probably be more convenient for you.

Current rental price list

In Špindlerův Mlýn: parking, ski buses and ski passes

Parking rules, ski bus timetables and ski pass sales can change every winter, so check them before your trip on the official websites of the town of Špindlerův Mlýn and the ski resort. This is what we found out in September 2026; some of the information applies to last winter, 2025/26:

• Špindlerův Mlýn has several ski areas: Svatý Petr, Medvědín, Horní Mísečky and Hromovka. The town also counts Labská among them.
• The central car parks are P1 (Bedřichov), P2 Hromovka and P3 Medvědín. According to the town, P1 is closed until the end of November 2026 because of the construction of a cable car.
• In winter 2025/26, car parks P2 and P3 were free for day parking from 7 am to 10 pm. Overnight parking there was not allowed. Parking in the centre is paid.
• In winter 2025/26 the ski buses were free, running from 13 December 2025 to 15 March 2026. Four lines left roughly every hour from the central car parks through the centre to the Labská, Hromovka, Medvědín and Svatý Petr areas.
• Ski passes can be bought online through the GOPASS system. According to the ski resort, they are sold much like airline tickets, so buying ahead can work out cheaper.

Returning on the way home

If you drive home from Špindlerův Mlýn the same way, you pass through Vrchlabí again and can return the gear on the way. If you are staying in the mountains for several days, you can take the gear for your whole stay. The price list is broken down by number of days, and for the whole winter we also offer season rental.

• Enter the return date straight away in your booking so that we can plan for the gear.
• Plan the return around our opening hours. If you already know you will not make it, call us as soon as possible.
• Before leaving Špindlerův Mlýn, check that you have everything. Poles, helmets and goggles are easy to leave behind in the car park.
