We have put together the Czech spring holiday dates for 2027 from the Ministry of Education, the winter holidays in Poland and Germany, the new lift being built at car park P1 and a few things worth sorting out before you set off for the mountains. Nobody can honestly tell you the ideal time to go to the mountains. Snow, weather and how busy the slopes will be are impossible to know in advance. What we can give you are dates and information to plan your trip yourself: when last season started, how the Czech spring holidays 2027 are spread out and what is new in Špindlerův Mlýn. This article was written for winter 2026/27 and is based on information available in September 2026. ## When does the ski season start in Špindlerův Mlýn? The start of the season varies from year to year and depends mainly on snow conditions. To give you an idea: the Skiareál Špindlerův Mlýn ski resort announced the start of the 2025/26 season for 13 December 2025. The free ski buses, which run on four lines roughly once an hour from the central car parks through the town centre to the Labská, Hromovka, Medvědín and Svatý Petr areas, had a timetable from 13 December 2025 to 15 March 2026 in winter 2025/26. When we wrote this article, we did not have a confirmed start date for winter 2026/27, so we do not give one here. Up-to-date information on the season start and the operation of the ski areas is on the resort website skiareal.cz, and the ski bus timetables are on the town website mestospindleruvmlyn.cz. ## Czech spring holidays 2027: dates by district In the Czech Republic, the half-term break falls on Friday 29 January 2027. According to the Czech Ministry of Education, the spring holidays are spread over six weeks between 1 February and 14 March 2027, and the dates depend on the district where the school is located. A few examples: - 1–7 February 2027: Liberec, Semily, Náchod - 8–14 February 2027: Jičín - 15–21 February 2027: Trutnov, Pardubice - 22–28 February 2027: Prague 1 to 5, Brno-City - 1–7 March 2027: Prague 6 to 10 - 8–14 March 2027: Hradec Králové, Prague-East, Prague-West > **Tip from the shop:** In the Liberec, Semily and Náchod districts and a few others, the spring holidays follow straight on from the half-term break, so pupils there are off from Friday 29 January to Sunday 7 February 2027. The dates for every district are in the Czech Ministry of Education overview of the organisation of the 2026/2027 school year. ## Winter school holidays 2027 in Poland and Germany The Krkonoše mountains lie on the Czech-Polish border, so it is useful to know the winter holiday dates in the neighbouring countries too. According to the official overviews, they are: ### Poland: ferie zimowe 2027 - 18–31 January: Lower Silesian, Silesian, Opole, Łódź, Subcarpathian and Podlaskie voivodeships - 1–14 February: Masovian, Pomeranian, Świętokrzyskie and Lublin voivodeships - 15–28 February: Lubusz, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Warmian-Masurian, Greater Poland, West Pomeranian and Lesser Poland voivodeships ### Germany: winter holidays 2027 - 1–6 February: Berlin, Brandenburg, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt - 8–19 February: Saxony - 8–12 February: Bavaria (where these holidays are called Frühjahrsferien) The German dates come from the overview published by the conference of education ministers of the German federal states (KMK), as of 9 October 2025. Each federal state sets its own holidays and the KMK only publishes them together. Nobody knows in advance how busy the slopes will be in a given week, and it also depends on snow and weather. ## Coming soon: a six-seater chairlift from car park P1 The ski resort is building a new heated six-seater chairlift, Audi line Přehradní. It will run from the central car park P1 (Bedřichov) to the top station of Hromovka and, according to the resort, is due to open to skiers in December 2026. Construction schedules can slip, so check skiareal.cz before you travel. This also affects parking. According to the town, car park P1 is closed until the end of November 2026 because of the lift construction. The other central car parks are P2 Hromovka and P3 Medvědín. In winter 2025/26, parking there was free during the day (7 am to 10 pm) and overnight parking was not allowed. Parking in the centre of Špindlerův Mlýn is paid. The town will publish the rules for winter 2026/27 on its website. ## Ski passes online: why sort them out in advance Since 2019, the Skiareál Špindlerův Mlýn resort has been selling ski passes much like airline tickets, and the resort itself says that buying in advance can save you a significant amount. You can buy them online through the Gopass system at gopass.travel. Before you buy, check the current terms on the resort website, including until when and at what cost a purchase can be cancelled. ## Evening skiing and cross-country skiing after dark If you do not have a whole day for the slopes, you can also ski in the evening. In Špindlerův Mlýn, evening skiing is available on Hromovka, and the current operating hours are on the resort website. Cross-country skiers have the Vejsplachy area by the Kačák pond right in Vrchlabí. There are more than 7 km of regularly groomed trails, and more than half of them have artificial snow and floodlights, so you can ski after dark too. The trails are maintained by Spartak Vrchlabí and TJ SVS Krkonoše, you can park right at the sports ground, and information is on nabezky.cz. According to a route planner, the driving routes to Špindlerův Mlýn from Prague, Hradec Králové, Jičín and Brno pass about 610 metres from us, and the route from Trutnov goes right past us. From us to Špindlerův Mlýn it is 16.1 km, about 18 minutes by car. You do not have to book in advance, but it saves time: we have the equipment ready and you just pick it up. Without a booking, we choose from whatever is available at the time.
